STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Yampa Valley Medical Center has achieved Healthgrades 2014 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive and objective information about physicians and hospitals.
This is the second consecutive year YVMC has received the Patient Safety Excellence Award, which places it within the top 5 percent of all hospitals for excellent performance in safeguarding patients from serious, potentially preventable complications during their hospital stays.
“Being recognized for Patient Safety Excellence for the second time is an honor and the result of our Board, physicians and staff being committed to delivering outstanding care,” said Frank May, CEO of Yampa Valley Medical Center. “The commitment is demonstrated by the ongoing education and training and excellent communication between multiple providers caring for patients and paying close attention to details.”
This is the first year to award the Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This places YVMC in the top 15 percent of hospitals nationally, based on how its patients responded to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.
Hospitals recognized with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award performed well in five areas of particular importance to patients: a) nurse communication, b) pain control, c) receiving discharge instructions, d) receiving help quickly, and e) how well staff explained medications.
“We continually hear from our patients that the care and compassion received from our staff is terrific,” May said. “We have worked very hard to improve the way we communicate with our patients and have implemented programs such as post-discharge phone calls to follow-up on any needs the patients may have after they leave our facility. The personal touch and caring attitude is evident in our receiving the award for Outstanding Patient Experience.”
